Job Description

The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced and detail-driven Team Leader – Specimen Reception & Accessioning (SRA) to oversee the daily operations of our specimen reception team within a high-volume pathology laboratory.This role is critical to ensuring specimens are received, accessioned, and processed accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with NATA and laboratory quality standards. You will provide hands-on leadership, manage workflows, and act as the key point of contact for specimen reception queries, supporting both operational excellence and a positive team culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the specimen reception and accessioning team.

  • Allocate daily workloads to meet turnaround times in a fast-paced environment.

  • Oversee accurate specimen accessioning, data entry, and tracking in PowerPath.

  • Ensure correct prioritisation, storage, and handling of specimens.

  • Act as the primary contact for specimen reception queries and escalations.

  • Ensure compliance with NATA requirements, laboratory procedures, and data privacy standards.

  • Support onboarding, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Participate in quality activities, audits, and accreditation processes.
     

About You

  • Leadership in an administrative setting, ideally in a laboratory or healthcare setting.

  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

  • Experience working in high-volume, time-critical environments.

  • Knowledge of laboratory quality systems and compliance requirements.

  • Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (PowerPath desirable).

  • Ability to work full-time, Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend support if required. Flexibility on shift times would be required based on business demand.
